The important events that the Women’s Rights Movement had accomplished in the 1900s all helped women today. Now, women have so much more rights than they used to. Women have gained so much respect over the years. Yet, there are also many problems that women are fighting today as well. Those include the wage gap, body image rights in advertising, objectification of women, and the attacks on Hillary Clinton.
The Wage Gap is the difference in the rate of pay between men and women. It is said that women make less than men do, rather than them both getting the same amount. The wage gap is also used to compare the rate of pay between different races and white men (Infoplease.com). The website, Infoplease.com says, “The wage gap is expressed as a percentage (e.g., in 2013, women earned 78.3% as much as men aged 16 and over) and is calculated by dividing the median annual earnings for women by the median annual earnings for men.” (infoplease.com). The Equal Pay Act, which allows companies and employers to give unequal pay to men and women who have the same job, was signed in 1963. Personally, I feel that it is not right to have this wage gap. There is no reason to why women can not make the same amount as men do.
The body image in advertising is a big problem in the world today. Women who model for famous companies have to meet certain requirements in order to be hired. They have to be a certain weight, height, and they most likely have to look a certain way too. Most women in society do not look all the same, so putting women in magazines and other advertisements who do look similar is crazy. Most women get down on themselves because the are not as skinny as the girls who are in well-known advertisements. Everyone expects women to be tall, tan, and skinny, but everyone is different in their own way. I think there should be a more positive view on a women’s body image in advertising. I also think that women should not have these advertisements to look up to because some of them are ridiculous. Women should be able to be confident with their body and not be shamed by advertisements.
Hillary Clinton is being attacked for running for president just because she is a woman. Hillary Clinton, in my opinion, is a very brave and courageous women. She is the only woman who is running for president this year. Some people do not like her because of her political views, but other do not like her just because she is a woman. Women should be able to do what they want and not be attacked for it. I think that people should judge her for her political views rather than judge her because she is a woman.
I believe that we should keep fighting for women's rights. We have come such a long way from where we used to be. At the beginning, women were viewed as the property of men, and they thought that all they could do was take care of children and clean. Now, we have a woman who is running for president. It is very important to keep fighting for all the problems that women are still facing today.
