The role of women in a normal society in the 1800s was referred to as the Cult of Domesticity. This meant that most women were expected to stay at home all day and clean. They were also responsible for taking care of children. Women did not get a lot of respect from their husbands and other men in the 1830s. Women were looked at as more of the property of a man rather than actual human beings. Women in the 1800s were also not allowed to vote, unlike men. Most women were not treated with much respect.
Lucretia and Elizabeth were both active abolitionists. The convention lasted two days. On the first day, a meeting was held only for women who got invited to attend. The second day consisted of a meeting that was open to the general public. At the private convention, Elizabeth Cady Stanton read the Declaration of Sentiments and Grievances. Stanton wrote the Declaration of Sentiments and Grievances. This declaration is created just like the Declaration of Independence, but it is for the rights that women should have. The preamble says, “We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men and women are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights.” (History.com). During the public convention, men were allowed to come. At the convention, people were able to sign the declaration if they agreed with it. One man who attended the meeting was Frederick Douglass. He sided with the ideas of Elizabeth Cady Canton.Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton were the founders of this convention. The Seneca Falls Convention is a very important part of the Women’s Rights Movement.

This rage inspired Elizabeth Cady Stanton to fight for women’s rights. Elizabeth was able to participate in the creating of many different women’s rights organizations and conventions. With the help of Susan B. Anthony, she was able to from the National Women's loyal League in 1863 (History). They also formed the National Woman Suffrage Association seven years later. Elizabeth Cady Stanton was fighting for rights lIke equal pay, birth control, and temperance. Elizabeth was considered way ahead of her time. A woman in the 20th and 21st century was fighting for those types of equal rights.

She has Quaker origins, which makes sense why she was a strong abolitionist.
